Despite the fact that most types of plastic materials are recyclable, not many people really bother to recycle them. Why? For most people, throwing away plastic bottles into the garbage is more convenient than cleaning these things up and recycling them.

Sadly, the habit of throwing away used plastic into the trash can have tremendous consequences to our environment, to our way of life and on the life forms around us. You see, it takes about 250 for years for plastic cups and bottles.

A large amount of these materials go straight to the landfill each day and it cost the government huge sums of money to keep these plastic materials in the landfills. Burning or incinerating plastic to save some space in the landfill is not even an option. Incineration of plastic increases the amount of greenhouse gases. Smoke from burnt plastic also contains dioxin which is hazardous to health. Given this situation, recycling of plastic becomes even more important.

Another reason why recycling is important is that waste plastic materials that are left lying around or disposed of into bodies of water may pose hazards to marine life and other life forms.  You see, large marine species often mistake plastic bottles that are floating around in the water for food so they try to eat them. As a result, a good number of large marine animals die each year after ingesting plastic materials.
