Recycling of plastic has gained a lot of popularity after the awareness for global warming has increased. Plastic is not biodegradable. This means that it will never decompose. That is why it is very important to recycle it. However, it is important to know that not all types of plastic can be recycled. Plastic bags are a fine example as they cannot be recycled nor do they decompose. They are the biggest environmental hazards. |
In the United States, almost all the communities have recycling options. They have separate recycling disposing units where people can dump the plastics. The types of plastic that can be recycled are plastic bottles that are PET quality, milk cans and water bottles.
Billions of plastic bags are used every single day and not even 3 percent of them can be recycled in reality. The only way to stop environmental damage due to plastic is by stopping the use of plastic bags. Carry your own shopping bags.
When we do not recycle, the plastic bags become a part of the land fill. In landfills, the plastic bottles and bags become a complete waste and they do not decompose either. They can stay there for another million years.
Eventually these plastics become litter and further costs have to be put in to clear them up. They become environmental hazards eventually by giving out gases. They pose a big danger to scavenging animals and birds which mistake the plastic bags for food. If a plastic item is thrown away, then they become waste. One should prevent plastic from becoming a waste.
