Types Of Water Pollution

Generally speaking by water pollution we mean the contamination of water by harmful pollutants of different sources.

But we can categorize water pollution into the following few types. Such categorization of water pollution helps environmentalists and researchers to work better in understanding the water pollution and finding solutions to it.

Different types of Water Pollution

Point Source and Non-Point Source Water Pollution: Pollution from single source is called point source water pollution and from multiple sources is called non-point source water pollution. There is another kind of water pollution which spreads to a large area like nuclear waster in water. Such pollution is called transboundary pollution.

Surface Water Pollution: The water on the exterior of the earth when contaminated is called surface water pollution. These are found on the exterior of the earth’s crust like lakes, ponds, rivers, seas and oceans.

Groundwater Pollution: Considerable amount of water is present under the soil and rock structures of earth crust, called groundwater. When pollutants seep through the mud to this water table it is called ground water pollution. They are mostly caused by pesticides, industrial dumps, and chemical wastes from industries.

Microbiological Pollution: This is a natural form of water pollution caused by colonies of microorganisms that threat the condition of water and marine life. Even humans may also become ill by usage of such water. Diseases like cholera, jaundice, stomach problems are caused by such pollution.

Oxygen depletion Pollution: Lots of biodegradable substances lead to increase in number of microorganisms in water which can lead to depletion of dissolved oxygen in water bodies. This is called oxygen depletion pollution.

Pollution:

Water-Pollution-Solutions      The implementation of various laws of developed countries and developing countries since 1970 has been able to improve quality of water to some extent yet, the world has not be able to come out from the dangers of water pollution and still 20% of the total population of the world live with water pollution and contamination. However we still have time to do something and bring back the nature’s purity with some simple but practical and effective water pollution solutions. More..
