Causes Of Soil Contamination

Soil contamination is a process where the soil loses its chemical properties, biological properties and structure due to manmade chemicals.

Soil pollution is more common in Developed countries like USA and UK than in developing or underdeveloped countries like China, India, Nepal, Mexico etc. The nuclear wastes that comes out after the creation of nuclear weapons and after the testing of nuclear missiles and bombs destroys a lot of land every year.A lot of land is also eroded every year during the testing of these nuclear bombs and missiles. One of the main causes of soil pollution is the use of chemicals like insecticides, pesticides and different fertilizers. Excessive use of these fertilizers and chemicals makes the soil lose its minerals and makes it infertile by affecting the microorganisms in the soil. Deforestation, farming and other factors like wind and water also cause soil erosion which results in soil contamination.

Water is considered to be the most important ingredient to produce crops and farm lands. But with the use of water that contains salt in large quantities the land loses its fertility too and makes it unfit for agricultural activities. The waste coming out of the industries and factories also contribute majorly towards soil contamination. Leakage from oil tankers and improper discharge of sewage also contributes to soil pollution.

Natural disasters like floods, earthquakes, volcanoes and storms also cause soil contamination as a lot of land loses its structure and chemical and biological properties. Many times when the manmade dams break due to floods a lot of land gets contaminated.

Pollution:

How-Do-Soil-Contamination-Affect-Plant-Growth      Soil pollution is caused when most of the atmospheric pollutants come and settle down on the ground. Polluted water used for irrigation also pollutes the soil and the pollutants from sewage, fertilizers and chemicals deposit from factories directly deposits  on the soil. This polluted soil, affects plants and vegetations growth. More..
