The greenhouse effect is looked at like a bad thing, as people often confuse it with global warming. However, greenhouse effect is required by the earth, and it is a good thing unlike global warming. |
Life thrives on the earth mainly due to the energy derived from the sun. Most of the sun’s rays that fall on the earth are reflected back into space and this is called infra red radiation. This radiation is also absorbed by the greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide, methane and water vapor. These gases slow down the process of light escaping into space again. It also makes the climate warm enough for the earth. That is why various plants and animals including humans are able to survive.
They sort of form a warm blanket around the earth. The important thing to know is that greenhouse gases only make up one percent of the earth’s atmosphere. But these gases that make the greenhouse effect work are much needed to regulate life on earth. If these gases did not exist, then the earth’s temperature could be as low as the polar region. Life cannot survive in such extreme temperatures. This phenomenon is called the greenhouse effect by scientists.
When there are too many gases in the atmosphere, which are further added by humans the greenhouse effects may be on the adverse leading to global warming. It is a phenomenon where the earth’s surface or the atmosphere becomes extremely hot. That is why humans need to control the pollution levels and save the environment.
