Of late, the media is only talking about global warming and its negative effects. Global warming directly relates to greenhouse effects and throws light on the fact that the earth is warming up. The earth is made up of several gases like carbon dioxide, methane and nitrogen. The composition or ratio of these gases is well balanced naturally, by the earth. |
However, by using modern conveniences, human beings are abusing the environment and upsetting the earth’s natural balance. This is in turn causing the earth to heat up. In the current day situation, global warming is caused mainly due to car pollution and other kinds of pollution.
There are many types of greenhouse gases including water vapor, carbon dioxide, methane, ozone and fluorocarbons. All these absorb light or heat energy in different ratios and they store the energy so that the earth stays warm enough. If not for these gases, the earth would be like a Tundra region. The gases absorb optimum heat energy and the rest escapes into space. Carbon dioxide stores heat for the longest period of time, among all the gases.
Today, we use many products to run our daily lives that create excess carbon dioxide. For example, we burn coal to generate electricity. Coal is a fossil fuel and when burnt it gives out carbon dioxide. Cars also burn gasoline to run and they give out gases like methane, nitrous and carbon dioxide as well. Gasoline and other oil products are also fossil fuels that were made by a natural process in the depth of the earth.
