People all over the world contribute 40 percent to 60 percent towards global warming by simply staying at home or conducting their daily lives. Here is what people do every single day that contribute to the greenhouse effect. |
We use electricity that is generated by burning tons of coal, which is a fossil fuel. Fossil fuels are not renewable and once they are burnt they are gone for ever. The earth must have taken millions of years in creating these fuels. This includes petrol, oil and other gases too.
An average household would be creating more carbon dioxide by consuming more electricity, driving multiple cars and consuming more materials for daily living.
People use cars and personal scooters in spite of ample public transport available. So, this only multiplies the number of vehicles on the road. This means these vehicles are releasing more green house gases into the atmosphere.
The greenhouse gases form a kind of blanket around the earth, preventing the heat from escaping the earth’s atmosphere. The blanket which is formed naturally by the earth can actually keep the earth’s temperature at a standard 18ºC. However, when we add gases to the atmosphere this temperature can reach exorbitant levels.
When temperatures rise beyond control or the safety level, several micro organisms, plants die and may also become extinct. It also causes animal extinction and deforestation in the rain forests.
The only way we can control the greenhouse effect positively is by controlling the carbon dioxide emissions, using less materials and mostly using energy from renewable sources.
