How Is The Problem Of Floods Made Worse By Soil Erosion ?

Floods and soil erosion go hand in hand. To start with, floods cause soil erosion.

When floods occur, they take all the top soil and take it down to the sea, river or other water body. If the flood occurs in places where there is vegetation and trees, then there is not much erosion because the trees and vegetation hold the soil together. If this is not the case, the soil is washed on down to the river or sea bed. The more soil that gets washed down, the less water the river can carry. Therefore, slowly over time, if the soil keeps getting washed in to the sea or the river the level of the river rises and causes the river to flood more easily.

In this manner, soil erosion and floods go hand in hand. A better way to ensure that this relationship doesn’t cause destruction and ruin is that we protest our soil especially where it is likely to facilitate for water to run off a river bed into a river. See that there is enough vegetation on the river banks so that the soil doesn’t get eroded and the cycle gets into motion.

It makes perfect sense to see that all the river banks are well vegetated and that they are protected from all possible wash over of the top soil.  This will prevent any future mishap and also they will also preserve the top soil so that it can be used for good plant growth.

Global Warming:

Stopping-Soil-Erosion      There are many ways in which soil erosion can be stopped and a lot of them are not very difficult to implement. One way to do it is to maintain good ground cover. The easiest and practical way to do this is to sow a cover crop or a companion crop. More..
