Climate Change And Sea Level Rise

The term ‘Climate change’ means high degree of change in the weather. It could be the temperature rise or fall.

Global warming is the perfect example and consequence of Climate changes. The two gases that contribute majorly to the natural greenhouse warming are carbon dioxide and water vapor. There are other gases that contribute very less as compared to carbon dioxide and water vapor which are methane, sulfur hexafluoride and nitrous oxide.Human activities have been a major cause for the increase in several greenhouse gases since the beginning of Industrial revolution. There has been an increase of 30 percent in the concentration of carbon dioxide in our atmosphere over the past two centuries.  If the consumption of fossil fuels such as coal and oil is not stopped there will be an increase of up to 60 percent in greenhouse gases in the atmosphere by 2100.

The biggest effect of climate changes and global warming has been the melting of ice masses all over the world. Ice sheets and glaciers are huge bodies of ice and cover near about ten percent of the world’s land area. Because these have been melting very slowly due to global warming, the sea levels all around the world have been constantly increasing. More ice has been melting every year than is replaced by snowfalls. Hence if the atmosphere keeps getting polluted every year by industries and the use of fossil fuels is not controlled, the mankind will have to pay for their own miseries.

Global Warming:

Sea-Level-Rise-Statistics      We live in the world where the climate is being modified substantially by our activities. These changes lead to various impacts and one of them is sea level rise at an unexpected rate in the last few decades. The climate has changed throughout the earth’s history and in last 400 000 years four glacial cycles have been followed by our climate. Incoming solar radiations time and amount has changed significantly due to this. More..
