The earth surface gets heated up by the solar radiations which are trapped by the greenhouse gases present in the atmosphere. The major cause of global warming is the increase in the concentration of these toxic gases present in the atmosphere. |
Human beings have been continuously carrying out certain human activities like burning of fossil fuels, emission of toxic gases from automobiles and industries which have high level of carbon dioxide are released into the atmosphere. These levels are more than what the plants can absorb. In addition, deforestation of land and other natural calamities have depleted the forests on the planet making it further difficult to restore the levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.
Since the average temperature in the planet has risen by about 0.8 °C, polar ice caps, glaciers and huge ice shelves have been rapidly melting into the vast oceans causing desalination of water bodies. This decrease in the salt water concentration affects the ocean current and causes the temperature of water bodies to rise. In addition, there has been excessive evaporation of water into the atmosphere causing further increase in the levels of toxic gases.
Urbanization, growth in the technology and industrialization has made humans depend on various resources which contribute to increasing the carbon footprint in the environment. Debates and awareness about environmental conservation and switch to renewable non-polluting sources of energy in order to restore the eco-balance is being encouraged around the world. This is important in order to make our planet safer and greener for the future generations.
