Global warming has resulted in creating a huge impact in the climatic conditions of the world. It has affected the general environment in various negative ways. |
Human activities like burning of fossil fuels, dumping of industrial wastes in the river and emission of excessive amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere has resulted in causing serious damage to the ecosystem equilibrium. Many of our precious natural resources have depleted and several plants and animal species in both land and sea are endangered. Some of them are already extinct due to careless human activities. The increase in the average temperature of the earth as a consequence of global warming has caused excessive evaporation of water from the surface of water bodies. Carbon dioxide emission has exceeded the normal level during the recent years as humans continue to increasing carbon footprints in the atmosphere through their daily activities.
The concentration of greenhouse gases has caused huge glaciers, ice shelves and polar ice caps to rapidly melt into the oceans. This has resulted in a rise in the sea level. In addition, the decrease in the salt concentration in the ocean water has affected the ocean currents and brought about a change in the average temperature of these vast water bodies. Coral reefs are diminishing in a rapid pace and several marine species are endangered as they strive to adapt to the changes in their natural habitat.
Seasonal variations have also been observed in the recent years. Variable and unpredictable rainfalls, drastic changes in the seasonal patterns, stretching and shortening of the seasons, droughts, floods and heat waves are some of the other consequences of global warming on the environment.
