Climatic changes, seasonal variations and volatile weather patterns have been some of the many effects of global warming. |
About 0.8 °C rise has been observed in the average temperature of the globe, mainly due to human encroachment in the natural world.Polar ice caps are melting rapidly and the excessive water into the oceans are causing a rise in the sea levels. The concentration of ocean salt has decreased and this desalination has also changed the temperature of water which affects the floral and faunal communities in the sea.
Factors like urbanization, burning of fossil fuels, deforestation and other pollutants has greatly increased the concentration of carbon dioxide, methane and other toxic gases that contribute to increasing the average temperature of the planet. The frequency of natural calamities like earthquakes, hurricanes, tropical storm, forest fires, drought and flood have seen a sharp rise in the recent past.
Heat waves and droughts have been continually affecting the drier parts of the globe. Water shortage and contaminated and polluted water have affected crop yields and overall food production of many staple crops. The agricultural sector today faces a major challenge as it strives to meet the increasing demands of the population. Many plant and animal species have been endangered due to the drastic and rapid climatic changes. Coral reefs are disappearing in rapid pace as the water bodies and ecosystem get s adversely affected. Today it becomes every man’s need to adapt to the new climatic changes and foremost responsibility to reduce global warming in order to save our planet.
