Fond memories of tobogganing and blizzards are slowly becoming stories of the past. The seasons are stretched to variable periods in the year. Summers are becoming warmer due to the rising temperatures in the water bodies.Experts predict that even if there is a total stop in the emission of greenhouse gases, the phenomenon of global warming would continue in the United Kingdom for the next hundred years. This is mainly because the carbon dioxide levels present in the atmosphere has increased by almost thirty-four percent as compared to the period before the industrial revolution. The level is going up day by day due to various human activities like burning of fossil fuels, rapid urbanization processes, and deforestation. These factors prevent absorption of carbon dioxide by plants. Emission of harmful gases from automobiles and industrial wastes result in pollution of air, water and other natural resources. 

It will not be an easy task to bring these undesirable effects under control in the near future. Research reveals that once carbon dioxide enters the atmosphere, it does not escape out of the planet easily and can stay for a century or even more. 

Climatologists and scientists have been debating on the issue of global warming and how to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases. A number of measures and steps are being adapted to tackle this enormous problem which affects all of us and the future generations.
