What Are The Effects On Food Production From Climate Change ?

Climatic changes have resulted in variable rainfall in many area of the world today. Droughts, floods, forest fires and other natural calamities have made some parts of the globe inhabitable and unsuitable for cultivation. In other parts, the food production suffers as the crop yields drops in significant manner.

The food supply and demand balance has tipped with increase in the world population. However, some experts feel that the rising carbon-dioxide content levels in the atmosphere could speed up the photosynthesis process and may even help in the growth of plants and crops. However, the world has yet to see any such consequences. Today, this scientific school of thought has come under a lot of criticism in many conferences. Critics feel that it is just an illusion and the greenhouses gases are going to cause more harm than be benefits for the food production in the future. Experiments conducted on staple foods with the above hypothesis have revealed that the production goes down by half than what was predicted.

Newer technologies are being adapted for the climatic change and bio-fuel crops are coming in trend as the costs of fertilizer and transport become more expensive. Scientists are also studying the effects of seasonal variations on the plants with the various climatic changes in different parts of the world.

In short, the agriculture sector, being mainly dependent on the weather patterns, is facing a number of challenges to cope up with the demand as the availability and accessibility of food is becoming limited by the season. Increasing temperatures across the world is not good news for farmers as many staple crops will succumb to the change in temperatures.

Climate-Change-In-South-Africa-And-Weather-Patterns      The climatic changes and a steady increase in the temperature at a global level have created a huge impact on the rainfall and general weather conditions in almost all parts of the world. This phenomenon has also caused seasonal variations which also influences on the crop yields and the availability of natural resources. More..
