Climatic changes have adversely affected certain sectors of tourism which are dependant on various natural resources of a region. These changes hamper the overall quality of life and natural settings in the tourist spots. |
Many national parks and sanctuaries today are on the verge of closing down to protect the various endangered species and reduce the threat of further human encroachment in the natural setting. Deforestation has resulted in massive depletion of forests and wooded areas which is the life-line of the region’s floral and faunal existence. Further, these changes affect the temperature, rainfall and overall climate of the region.
Today, some of the top tourist destinations have lost their earlier charm due to human pollution. In fact, many tourists find their perfect vacation disrupted by erratic rainfall in an untimely fashion. Some of the regions have become too hot to be a relaxing holiday spot. Today, vacations are mostly taken in winter or spring rather than summer due to an increase in the average temperature across the globe. The rate of natural calamities like cyclones, tropical storms, forest fires and volcanic eruptions have increased which has resulted in further damaging the balance of ecosystem. The safety of some of the tourist spots has come under question due to the unpredictable climatic conditions.
Excessive melting of ice and increase in the global temperature has affected winter sports like skiing and other winter sightseeing activities to a great extent. This increase in the sea level over years could result in some of the exotic beaches getting totally wiped out from the face of the earth as the water invades the coastal landscape.
