There are various aspects of food security which are affected by the climatic changes across the world. The disturbances in the balance of agro-ecological conditions indirectly affect the economy. When the sectors of food production and availability get affected along with the distribution of wealth the affordability to buy food items start varying among people. |
Soil composition and crop yields are undergoing major shifts as the production strategy is constantly varying to maximize cost benefits as well as in adapting to the new demands of the population. Food supply stability is also affected with the variable weather conditions such as unpredictable rainfall, constant seasonal variation and extremities in climatic changes. This results in fluctuating food supplies and yields of the various crops. Semi-humid and semi-arid regions take a major hit as the productivity of livestock drops due to the quality of food and reduction in the availability of plants for nourishment.
The availability of food items in various countries, communities and individuals in sufficient quantities and high quality is becoming a major challenge in various parts of the world. Though the access to food has relatively improved in developing countries, decline in the income and earnings due to global financial crisis and inflation of food items is still a problem in many countries. This is due to the insufficient access to food items and has resulted in an imbalance in the food items reaching equally to various strata of the society.
Decrease in labor productivity due to malnutrition and increase in poverty levels has been indirectly affected due to the climate changes in the world today. The lower strata or the poorer sections of the society strive to cope up with the infectious diseases due to contamination of water and food items as a result of pollution at various levels of food production.
