Various species of animal which are natural habitants around the Antarctic oceans are endangered due to the global warming and climatic changes in the recent years. These species find it difficult to survive and hunt for their food as the climatic changes has taken a huge toll on the eco-system in the region. |
Further, fur seals, petrels, albatross and penguins are killed by human beings for their body fat and fur. These animals find it difficult to hunt for their own food due to the human encroachment in the sea life as well. It is a general observation that the varieties of species under these threats from humans are not too many but the individual number of species is depleting at a rapid rate due to humans atrocities.
Antarctic seabirds and other unique marine species find it quite difficult to survive under the ‘warmer conditions’ and the situation worsens when they are killed by man for their commercial values. Strict steps need to be taken to curb illegal fishing and the hunting of these species, whose survival is under major threat due to these human activities. Hunting and fishing of these species should be completely banned.
Reports revealed that many pregnant and lactating whales were killed by men. This prevents the possibility of an increase in the population of these species which is already under threat. When the lactating whales are killed, it is highly possible that their calves also starve to death. Steps are being taken to ban killing of this largest mammals surviving on our planet. Though the number of whales has been steadily increasing, unfortunately the threat on their survival has not completely eliminated.
