Topographic Maps Of Antarctic Ocean

Many websites provide satellite pictures of the Antarctic Ocean. These pictures show the distribution of huge ice sheets, ice shelves, glaciers and icebergs all over in this region. One can also consult Atlas maps to read the topographic maps of the Antarctic Ocean.

The aerial view is clearer and the impact of climate change is better understood in these pictures. The comparisons between the maps are clear indications of the drastic changes in the water level variations every year.

The topographic map of Antarctica also lists the islands present in the continent. Antarctica is one of the most inhabitable continents. It is situated on the Antarctic Ocean. It is the fifth largest continent in the world and is about fourteen million sq km in total area. Almost the whole continent is covered by ice and snow throughout the year. The weather conditions are quite extreme and are not conducive to survival of human beings.

However, certain animal species are very well adapted to live in such extreme weather conditions, of the frozen seas, islands and icebergs. The entire ice sheet is divided broadly into East Antarctic and West Antarctic. In addition, these ice shelves extend in to the sea.

Global warming has caused a lot of these ice caps to melt and have resulted in the increase in the sea levels to a great extent. The huge ice sheets have melted and broken away due to the increase in the average temperature around the globe. Expeditions have revealed that humans have survived in these extreme weathers earlier. Archaeological evidences from remains prove that industrialization has affected this ice-locked landmass which is situated in a remote area on the earth’s surface.

Why-Antarctic-Animals-Should-Not-Be-Killed      Various species of animal which are natural habitants around the Antarctic oceans are endangered due to the global warming and climatic changes in the recent years. These species find it difficult to survive and hunt for their food as the climatic changes has taken a huge toll on the eco-system in the region. More..
